Scripture of the Week
Jeremiah 29: 11-14 "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, ' plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,' declares the Lord, ' and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,' declares the Lord, 'and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.'"
I have a dear Christian sister who loves the first part of this verse, as it reminds her that the Lord is in her corner. I too love this verse, but it strikes me than the Lord also reminds us that in order to be part of those glorious plans, we have to seek him, pray to him. We are guaranteed that we will find him if we seek him, but there are also times when, like the Israelites, we may be in captivity. The captivity may be one of our own making -- as it was for the Hebrews, but it may be self-doubt, sin, the results of sin, or refusing to let go of the past or, even worse, the inability to trust the Lord with our future. We must seek the Lord first, as we are told by Jesus himself, if we are to partake in the Lord's plans.
